Building a Spotify for Everyone

Inclusion and amplifying diverse voices is at the heart of everything we do—both within Spotify and in the communities where we live, work, and play. No matter where you come from, or what’s playing in your headphones, we want to create a place where you belong.

Actions, not just words

Good intentions lay the foundation, but true change comes from action. We strive for clear progress and hold ourselves accountable to ensure our efforts lead to real, tangible impact – both on our platform and in how we work. We want to show up for people, hear their stories, and learn from their experiences — not just because it’s the right thing to do, but because it’s our responsibility to do right by our billions of fans, millions of creators and thousands of bandmates.

What it means to us

This work isn’t just something we talk about; it’s central to who we are, driven by our commitment to lasting change. Our Equity, Diversity, and Impact efforts are building a thriving, inclusive culture at Spotify while making a real impact in the world around us.

An inclusion mindset

Having an inclusion mindset means applying a growth mindset to inclusion.

At Spotify, we look to psychologist Carol Dweck’s work on “growth mindset” as the bedrock of growth, learning and development of our Band Members. Her research shows that success for many people has less to do with talent and brilliance and more to do with a mindset that embraces challenges and thrives in the face of adversity. People with a growth mindset put more energy into learning and an inclusion mindset does the same.

The fact is, having an inclusion mindset requires us to work and think hard about inclusion and ideally to seek input from others, especially those who have experienced exclusion or bias. We are committed to the journey of nurturing an inclusion mindset with all of our Band Members.

Global workforce by gender

We are committed to gender equity and continue to focus on building a workforce that reflects the world we live in.

Inclusive Hiring

Spotify’s committed to building a workforce that is reflective of the creators, artists and consumers on the platform.

We’re continually educating ourselves and evolving our approach to build a fair and equitable workplace for all. Making sure our hiring practices are inclusive and accessible is vital in achieving that. Simply put, we strive to build a workplace where people from all backgrounds can do their best work through equitable and inclusive ways of working.

The more voices we have represented and amplified in our business, the more we will all contribute, thrive and be brilliant. Making sure our hiring practices are inclusive and accessible is vital in achieving that.

A global approach with a local focus

By embedding inclusion into everything we do, we create an environment where everyone—our bandmates, creators, and users—can thrive, wherever they are in the world. This means breaking down barriers, fostering innovation, and ensuring that every individual’s unique contributions help shape our company and the communities we serve.

We strive to do this while maintaining a local focus and understanding of local context because without consideration of these variations, we run the risk of missing the mark. Our global approach strives to reflect the countries or regions we operate in.

Some of our global focus areas include:

LGBTQIA+ inclusion

Disability & Neuroinclusion

Racial equity

Women & gender equity

Our belonging communities

Led by our band members and open to all, including our many and numerous allies, our belonging groups contribute a vital sense of belonging.

16 communities within Spotify

They’re rhythms within our band, a place for people to share their experiences, support each other, develop leadership, and help us better understand their needs. These groups create safe spaces of belonging for band members, organize fun activities to build community, and put on events to promote education and intersectionality at Spotify.
